• OPERATING ENGINEERS LOCAL 542

No other Crane Training can compare to the Operating Engineers Apprenticeship .

This comprehensive, extensive,“4 year” Apprenticeship training (over 3000 hours) covered the Safety, Operation, Inspections and Maintenance of heavy equipment.

During this period, apprentices learn their trade by:
          1.  Working with skilled journeymen as a Crane “Oiler” on actual job sites from                    Nuclear power to High Rise construction.
          2.  Attending related classroom instruction and/or field training at the union                         training site..

Local 542 was one of the first training sites to have a “Tower Crane”. During my
3rd year ( 1977 ), I focused my training as a Tower Crane Operator and to date
have continued my education in this field
